An article, Courage to fulfil our responsibilities, in the Economist regarding the world’s challenges and threats states:

According to the World Bank, the attacks of September 11th 2001 cost more than $80 billion and pushed 11m people in developing countries into poverty.

An amazing cost both financially and in regards human life. Not only did 3000 approx. people die in New York as a result of the plane hi-jackings, but also milions of people into a deathly poverty. 3666 people for every dead American.

Now read the following:

The White House has confirmed it plans to ask Congress for an extra $80bn (£43bn), mainly to fund military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That was taken from a BBC article about Bush seeking $80bn for war funds.

(thanks to bedlam for the link)

And who says Bush isn’t crazy?
