You can see the release from Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com right here.

The basic details of the offer are:

* no need to consolidate orders to cut down on delivery costs
* no minimum orders
* $79 per year for a guaranteed 2 day delivery time
* it applies to any amazon article (books, DVDs, tools, health, music. personal care..etc)
* sharing benefits for up to four family members in your household (and I guess in your business also?)

He says “we expect Amazon Prime to be expensive for Amazon in the short term,. In the long term we hope to earn even more of your business, which will make it good for us too.”

Hmm, dunno, if I’d pay $79 (currently approx. €61.44) a year on top of the price of the book/DVD/CD I was already buying, *just to get it delivered in two days.
Checking on Amazon’s .co.uk site, there is no mention of this Amazon Prime membership.

This, I guess, isn’t unusual, especially when people like play.com (an English based music/DVD/book/movie shop) are offering free delivery at the moment.

It will be interesting to see what the takeup will be like, and also to see if they will be offering it in Europe.
