Wavehunt Logo
From Redbrick’s website:
“WaveHunt is a high-tech treasure hunt using a moving wireless computer network, with a first prize of two hundred euro!”

It is a similar idea to the RF Foxhunt competitions from my radiodays.

A hidden RF transmitter, usually TX’ing a CW stream, or an ID beacon, was hidden somewhere in a geographical area.

You use a DF (Direction Finding) antenna and a receiver to triangulate the signal from the beacon, and home in on it. Think orienteering with a radio to find the markers, here there is only one marker, and you have to navigate to find it.

The most important information is:
Where: Dublin City Centre. (Temple Bar, Stephen’s Green park, Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre).
Meet-up location: Planet Cyber Cafe, 13 Saint Andrew’s Street, Dublin 2. (Click for map)
When: Saturday, March 5th 2005 at 11:00am. Register your team to be notified via email!
Equipment: A laptop/PDA with 1hour or more battery,a Wi-Fi card, and software for wireless network detection.
External antennas: Unfortunately, these are forbidden. This is to keep the barrier to entry low. (This is a very good idea.)
Teams: Entrants must be individuals, or teams of two! There are no restrictions on who may enter this event, and company teams are welcome.
Cost: There is a charge of just €10 to enter WaveHunt. Company teams, however, are €30!
Further details, including definitions of the game area, will be provided on the day.

I’ll be there!
Thanks to Fergus for the link.
