MarsEdit from Ranchero, is a really nice app, I have to say I looked at in the past, but didn’t realise that I had, for free fully registered.

I’ll explain, I bought NewNewsWire, and as the Ranchero guys say:
Upgrade policy
If you own (or buy) NetNewsWire 1.0.x, then MarsEdit is free—and all 1.x versions of MarsEdit will be free. Your NetNewsWire serial number will work in MarsEdit.

So, I now also have MarsEdit for free. MarsEdit is a really nice app. It really does make weblog writing like writing email—with spell-checking, drafts, multiple windows, and even AppleScript support.
It works with various weblog systems: Blosxom, Conversant, Manila, Movable Type, Radio UserLand, TypePad, WordPress (as I have), and others.

It’s vast list of features includes:
- Works like email—edit each post in its own window. Main window lists weblogs and previous posts.
- Bookmarklet lets you send a page from your Web browser (Safari, Firefox, etc.) to MarsEdit.
- Works with many feedreaders (including NetNewsWire 2.0) so you can send news items to MarsEdit.
- Image and file uploading. View thumbnails of previous uploads.
- Save posts as drafts for later editing.
- Edit-in-BBEdit and Edit-in-SubEthaEdit commands.
- Custom tags, plus the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts for HTML and custom tags.
- Sends update notices—“pings”—to blo.gs, Technorati, and Weblogs.com.
MarsEdit options drawer screen shot- Supports categories and other options.
- Supports TypePad/Movable-Type extended, excerpt, keywords, and trackbacks.
- Customizable warnings before posting, so you don’t accidentally send a post before it’s ready.
- Applescript support: scripting dictionary plus a scripts menu for your own scripts.
- XML-RPC console—useful for debugging server problems. (Special feature for power users.)

To add a blog to MarsEdit, it takes about 3 minutes:
- open MarsEdit
- click add “weblog”
- enter weblog name, and URL
- enter the blog software (blogger/wordpress/typepad etc)
- enter RPC URL (for wordpress, default is: http://YOURURL/WORDPRESSINSTALL/xmlrpc.php
- blog ID

and thats it. It will then download your categories, and a number of previous posts (default says 10).
A quick screengrab of the interface.

With lots of options you can add categories, formatting, comment details, trackbacks its one of the best around (main competitor seems to be ecto).
