I am trying to buy a Treo 650 at the moment. Most of the ebay sellers won’t sell outside of the US, because they don’t really want to use Paypal. I can understand their reservations, but its still a real good service.

I have used Bestnetcall.com to call some US based shops. I have been using Bestnetcall.com for the past year almost.
And I today, just found another service the offer, that i didn’t know about.

They have an application (unfortunately Windows only so far, but I have e-mailed them about it.) DesktopCall (version 3.13) available which allows you to log into the Bestnetcall.com website and make calls from your desktop.
This is not to be confused with VOIP services, similar to Skype or Blueface.ie.

As their website explains:

Only a PC running the application on the desktop and a telephone is required. This is not a VoIP service, you talk over your telephone, not your PC. Therefore, no special hardware is required. Dial around international phone calling, and also outbound conference calls.

LAN users with either Internet or firewall restrictions may use DesktopCall which can be configured for use with a proxy server.

Since the call is telephone based, there is no need for other hardware, once you have a phone at hand.

The calls are not VoIP, but of course they may be routed over the Internet. Bestnetcall.com currently two Points Of Presence, one in New York and another in Toronto.

From looking at their consumer products page, it seems as if they will be offering VoIP in the near future, possibly along similar lines to Blueface.ie

As an aside, a 2 minute call @ 16:00GMT to a shop in New York cost in 6cent. Pretty good in any timezone!

Until I can find a better long distance calling service, I will be happy with Bestnetcall.com.
