MasterCard hack spawns phishing attack | The Register: “”

The recent compromise in Mastercard’s network resulted in possibly 40M credit card holders personal details being stolen.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the compromise has now spawned a phishing atempt.

The text of the phishing e-mail is:

From: Master Bank [master@masterbank.com] To: Subject: **Your Mastercard online Confirmation**

Dear User, During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we couldn’t verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete. If the account information is not updated to current information within 5 days then, your access will be restricted.

But of course we cannot be 100% sure of this. It could be false information. Indeed already the domain has expired:

Expiration date: 18 Jun 2006 20:13:11

If you see this e-mail coming to your mailbox, dump it. Mastercard, like all other financial institutions won’t be e-mailing you about some problem.
