Los Victorino make a fast and clean debut to Sanfermines
Published by bbt July 14th, 2005 in el-encierro
The torros of Victorino Martín (as written about herefrom Caceres, have made a very clean and fast debut to the fiestas de Sanfemín. This mornings encierro lasted 2,15 minutes from Santo Domingo to the corrals in the Plaza de Torros.
These torros seem to have produced one of the cleanest encierros of the fiesta with only a small number of people sustaining low level injuries.
For the last encierro, these torros did not put the breaks on for one moment. They managed to traverse the 0.9KM course in just 2,15 minutes.
For a small time when they exited the corrals at Santo Domingo one astado went to the front to “cut” a path for the rest of the herd.
For this first section to astados kept an eye on the runners, but did not interrupt their run. In Santo Domingo some had already fallen, but there were no serious injuries.
At the end of La Curva on Mercederes the torros split into two groups, one of four, and one of two. None of these astados fell at la curva. Was this due to the new anti-slip material? They did make this the fastest run of all, so there must have been a good reason.
Today’s encierro was very very busy, mainly due to the large amount of people who were present, mainly due to the chance of taking part in the encierro with these torros, for their first visit to Sanfermines. In Estefeta they did break into smaller groups, but there were no dangers.
When the herd entered Telefónos they were at their fastest. One Victorino did hit a corredor but mainly they did not stop and attack.
In the Plaza De Toros, the Victorinos went to the corral quietly. Many were waiting in the plaza for a chance of meeting them, but they were quiet. The Dobladores had little work to do this morning.

These bulls are said to be very responsive in the bullring, so it will be interesting to see them this evening.
From the whole festival there have been only eight horn injuries, four from ‘Dolores Aguirre’ and the other four from ‘Jandilla’.
Today’s encierro resulted in two serious injuries (where the person must go to hospital) a Pamplonés, aged 40. He received injuries to his head while running in La Cuesta De Santo Domingo.
The second was an Argentinian man, aged 23. His injuries were to the torax which he received running in el Callejón.
