[UPDATE]: They’re back up again as of 17:42…..someone must have plugged it back in again! ;)
[UPDATE2]: I was speaking to Tom a short while ago, and he has mentioned that this DNS issue will also effect O2 GPRS browsing. When I tried it myself, sure enough, I was unable to get to any names. This is probably because the GPRS service relies on the O2 DNS servers.

I didn’t try it, but access to known IPs may work.

Thanks Tom

[UPDATE]: Yup, it looks like a DNS issue. As a commenter just mentioned:

The joys of having using non-distributed DNS. Both DNS servers for o2.ie are down/unreachable (hosted with ESat), so until they’re fixed, or you somehow have cached IP info for www.o2.ie, we’re going to have to wait!

.cg

This does seem true. Both DNS servers DNS1.O2.IE (62.40.32.33) and DNS2.O2.IE (62.40.32.34) are in fact hosted with Esat, and this does look like the cause of the problem. So the pressure is on with them today!

The strange thing would be that both DNS servers are hosted with the same hoster!

Funnily, Esats DNS is hosted with esat.net (in a different IP block) and they, are up ;)
Oh well….

=================
It looks like O2.ie is down as of 10:58 this morning.

pinging www.o2.ie returns unknown host www.o2.ie

Traceroute to web.o2.ie returns
traceroute: unknown host web.o2.ie

It looks like as if it could be a DNS issue.

I wonder if O2 know about it?

oops….and I thought my head felt fuzzy this morning ;)

This is why we have our secondary nameserver in a different country!

heh, well someone should tell o2 that. i mean jeez, they operate (natively) in ireland, englan, asia, AND germany! Surely someone there has a spare IP to give them ;)

Well, they *still* have their *two* DNS servers in teh same IP space!

    mad!
