Skype, the free PC-PC, and cheap telephone line phone calls company has released Skype Zones.

Skype says “you can now access Skype and make calls from more than 18,000 Skype-friendly internet hot spots round the world.”

The application is powered by the Boingo network, which in Ireland has a roaming agreement with Bitbuzz.

It sounds like a cool service, BUT there is one little thing I don’t like: it only allow Skype traffic, either PC-PC or else breakout to POTS phone numbers.

Now, any decerning geek, who wants to talk to their other geek friends, or maybe their mum or dad, will also want to browse web, check mail and get their RSS feeds.

Maybe this is only a short term restirction, but I hope Skype, Boingo, or hopefully Bitbuzz bring this point up.

Skype Zones pricing is a well, I am not sure.

“You can try it out for two hours for just € 2.50 ($2.95) or you can enjoy it as much as you want for a whole month for € 6.50 ($7.95).”

If that included web access, then I might be interested, but sans web…I am not sure.

Especially since Fon will take over the world! ;)
