netNewsWire

This has made my week (ok so it is only Monday…).

Netnewswire, the excellent RSS feed aggregator for Mac OS, has been released to beta 17. Brent Simmons the developer (who’s company Ranchero was bought by Newsgator) must be really excited now.

You can synch your Netnewswire OPML list with a free Newsgator account (you can setup here).

This now brings the valhalla of RSS feed readers: being able to read your feeds from anywhere in the web and only see what has not been read yet.

This will cut down my feed reading by about 40 mins a day. I will now only see what I have not yet read. It will also maintain any open tabs I have open in Netnewswire.

If you have not yet bought a full copy of NNW, I suggest you do so right now. And while you’re at it, you can pick up a copy of the equally excellent Marsedit application at the same time.

Brent also has added support for Pukka, the super bookmark posting app for del.icio.us. Justin at Codesorcery must be happy too.

I will be doing plenty of testing in the coming weeks to see how things pan out.

[UPDATE:] Wow! Brent a comment. Thats the great kind of feedback you don’t get from others.

I hope all goes from strength to strength for Brent and Shiela.

[UPDATE2:] Justin from CodeSorcery also commented.

Pukka is a really nice little app for posting bookmarks to delicious. It includes features such as:

  • Fast & lightweight
  • Handles multiple del.icio.us accounts
  • Auto-completes tags
  • Stores passwords in the keychain
  • Bonjour auto-discovery of local Pukka users
  • Drag URLs to window or dock
  • Can use bookmarklets for fast posting from any recent browser
  • Use as an external weblog editor in NetNewsWire
  • Compatible with .webloc and .url files
  • Main window gets out of the way after posting
  • Self-updating with Sparkle
  • Universal application

Pukka: Simple. Delicious.

Thanks for the comment Justin.

Wow! Brent just left a comment!

Brent thanks for the comment. I have been using NNW since 0.8/0.9, when Marsedit was part of NNW.

I have seen NNW grow from stength to strength, and I was really happy for you when things went well with Newsgator.

I will continue to use NNW and spread the news among friends. Any bugs I find, I will be sure to send them to the list.
rock on! And thanks again for the comment.

Glad you like Pukka as well! Please let me know of any constructive criticism or definite keepers you might have for it. I’m hoping to polish it up in preparation for 1.0.

    Hi Justin!

Between you and Brent commenting, I feel people listen (sometimes ;) ).

Thanks for the comment. I think that since Brent has added Pukka support in NNW (along with Cocolicious) makes things just better.

One nice feature that Pukka gives is mutliple accounts that Cocolicious doesn’t give. I have to say I found cocolicious first, but then found Pukka.

If I think of anything, I will be sure to give you some feedback.

I have to go and get a Pukka badge for RWB also.

    thanks again for the comment,

    rgrds,

    b.
