Antoin, Ireland’s Chief Fonero, mentions a post from Martín Varsavsky’s blog, about Fon offering free WiFi to universities.

“the deal is that the college makes FON available throughout the campus, and in return, the students and lecturers will get free Internet access via FON. The university also gets the opportunity to earn revenue.”

This in itself is cool, but an idea which makes it even better is:

“There is a similar initiative amongst some university networks in Europe called eduroam, which is run by TERENA, but which I don’t know much about. It would be great to find a way to cooperate with eduroam through a roaming agreement or similar mechanism.”

This would be great. John Ronan a friend in WIT in Waterford goes to lots of European conferences for 3rd levels. Imagine being able to get your free WiFi anywhere for a conference.

Nice.

Bernie are you interested? :D
