8. Engage with comments, but selectively. Most comments will be informative or otherwise useful. Repay the effort by replying, you’ll get a lot out of it. Where someone is looking to cause a row or has demonstrated poor manners in the past, ignore them. Cranky or rude people are, almost as a rule, failures in life.

I think this is the most sensible way to approach comments afterall a comment is supposed to be:

n 1: a statement that expresses a personal opinion or belief

However, it does not require a response. If someone wants to make noise, either make it in a “nice way” or not at all. It is afterall your website and does not have to be takenover by someone else.

I do not however agree with this point:

13. Sign your work. If you haven’t got the courage of your own convictions to put your name to your work, or a good excuse, you shouldn’t expect anyone to take you seriously.

One question, why? As Copernicus pointed out in a comment on this post, some people have “professionaly reasons” for staying anonymous.

Signing your work, granted does show you are more inclined to stand behind your work, but it does also lead to its own issues. I know a few
I think that the Irish Blog O’ Sphere is self healing and self rergulating to a certain degree. If people think you are talking rubbish, they will let you know.

All in all, the majority of the points are very useful, and should be read and understoo by anyone who ois interested in starting one of these thing.
