Friday was my last day in Irishjobs.ie. It was kinda sad to be leaving, but I am really excited about starting with Nokia in September.

Friday afternoon I had to get to the airport for my flights to Guatemala.

Belén and I are in Guatemala and Belize for a few weeks (she is working and I am on holidays :) )

I got here after 10 hours from Madrid and 2 from Dublin.

First impressions of Guatemala: amazing scenery, beautiful shapes, and lots of baby adoptions.

We arrived into Guatemala city airport, which according to signage will have the most advanced airport in all Central America, on the 11th of March, 2007.

They didn’t mention a time, but I wish them well. (Jesus, Ireland can’t get the price, dates organised for an airport expansion, but these guys can?!).

Its a small airport, that kinda reminded me of my secondary school-lots of blue marble on the wall, and ceramic on the floor.

The hotel the conference is in is the Marriott Guatemala City , near on 400 rooms, 12 floors, and tens of American’s adopting babies.

The only thing I can really say is that I hope the children and the birth parents are treated well. There are alot of happy stories, as well as sad, and horrifying stories.

Yesterday was a very weird day. My body was half on Irish time and half on some timezone between Dublin and here. It reminds of of Cayce from Gibson’s Pattern Recognition.

We went walking around the zone for some lunch. Belén has been here since Wednesday and has been in most of the nice resturants :) This one was Italian and pretty tasty, including the Mexican Reggaeton music.

Today, after sleeping almost 14 hours, I am going to go for a walk around the city centre, Zone 1. There you’ll find lots of markets, Mayan people, and stuff to buy.

Tomorrow I hope to go to Antigua.

    Ta,

I’ll keep you posted. Maddest thing I saw today: a security guard guarding 20 Samsung TVs on the side of the street with a pump-action shotgun.

It seems that the pump action shot-gun is the weapon of choice in Guatemala city. Not exactly what you would think. Pump actions wouldn’t have the best accuracy….

I’m going to the weapon store tomorrow to see what I can buy.

Keep an eye out here. I’ll try to post photos too.

    Hi Fernando,

thanks for the welcome, but I am actually back in Ireland again. Guatemala was beautiful, especially Petén, and Antigua.

We stayed in Zona Viva, and that was great. Some really nice bars…Tacontento was really tasty food and also another one with Peruvian food.

Places to find jobs in Ireland…there are lots:

look at www.irishjobs.ie, www.recruitireland.com, www.monster.ie, www.jobs.ie and lots of other places.

I hope you find a good job!

    Buenas suerte,
