-- That’s all well and good Bernard but the Irish Fon maps aren’t worth a shite.

Hi Tom, by "shite" what do you mean? The coverage is shite? The mapping software is shite? I was a user before you (I would say the first on the Northside, and the second in Dublin..and probably in the country...but that doesn't make a difference).

I would expect the reason your AP is not on the map, is that it still has the old firmware. Unless its updated, it will never be on the maps.

1. There aren't many Irish Fon users (well of course!), but also

2. there aren't many Irish Fon users with the Fon routers with the new firmware. I don't know which it is exactly.

If the routers don't have the up-to-date firmware, they are not shown on the fon maps. This (as far as I know) is due to the requirement of the router to register itself "correctly" on the fon network.

Like I said, it works for me. Eircom WiFi network, on the other hand, well lets leave that aside...

Fon seemed to have a few problems in getting things started at the beginning. Too many firmware versions, and it wasn't made "bombproof" and "techy-proof". That was their main problem (IMHO).

Anyway, if there is a problem in getting the valid offer codes working, you might contact them, but I know that the offer is over (I think).

bernard

[NB: All my own opinions of course.]

That's all well and good Bernard but the Irish Fon maps aren't worth a shite.

I was one of the first Irish Fon users and I'm still not on the Irish Fon map.

And don't get me started on the "free" router offer. I applied several times with valid codes and I am still waiting to receive the Emperors New Routers!
