Nokia N800 & Nokia discounts..
Published by bbt February 6th, 2007 in bernard, nokia770, personal, runningwithbulls.com, techI just ordered my Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.
I really like this device. I would however like a discount, as a Nokia employee. They are getting a nice chunk of money back!
This seems to be something that people think “you work for Nokia, you get access to free/cheap/loan gadgets”
. Unfortunately this is not true.
But, I think it should be true, to a certain point. It says something for a company, that their employees are so willing to buy their products, *with their own money*. Some people would say well why? Well, because I actually think that those products are good, and worth paying for.
One thing is: I understand how hard it is to police giving out free devices. Things can get nasty quickly :), but giving people a discount is a good in-between.
I know that mobile operators and independent mobile phone shops give outrageous discounts, but since the N800 is not a mobile phone, and is in fact SIM free, I can’t see any operator carrying this.
Indeed, I contacted every operator in Ireland (and some people inside Nokia) and none say they will be carrying it within the next 6-8 months.
Pity. They are missing out.
So how about it guys, can you see it in your hearts, to offer your hardworking employees some sort of discount?
Please. Tommi, what do you say?

I hope you don’t mind Charlie, I used your Nokia disclaimer

> Tommi, what do you say?
I say “yes, please”. Not that my opinion would count much in this matter
Of course Tommi, but hea, thats two people asking….
oops, this is plug-in test.
Hey Bernard,
do you know Charlie? I’ve met him a couple of times now and swapped emails with him from time to time. He’s a nice guy.
Tom.
Hi Tom,
I haven’t met him. I have spoken with him by e-mail but thats it. Yes he seems a pretty nice guy.
In fact I was thinking about trying to get a (Nokia or not) blogger dinner in Finland in a few weeks. I’m going for a week, and thought it might be a nice idea…
I will contact him too and see what he says.
ta,
bernard
Bernard,
You don’t happen to know of somewhere delivering to Ireland who are still selling the N800?
The Elder has been won over to it by the number of times I’ve pulled it out of a jacket pocket and answered a question.
