Nokia might offer free mapping application…
Published by bbt February 8th, 2007 in bernard, runningwithbulls.com, software, tech[UPDATE: Yes, they have released it.]
A few months back I mentioned that I was getting a copy of Smart2Go’s mapping software that was being released for the N95. James Corbett asked if I oculd do a review of it. After asking Thomas Leliveld, could I blog about it, he asked if I would wait for a few weeks as something was in the pipeline.
Well, I think this is it
To quote:
The smart2go application - called “Nokia Maps” on Nokia devices - turns mobile devices into local mapping and routing engines with a navigation option, providing worldwide mapping free of charge.
It allows mapping and routing in over 150 countries and has support for full turn-by-turn satellite navigation in over 30 countries. Users can view where there are on the map, search for points-of-interests (POIs) and find their way by creating routes.
The application will be available “soon” (my words:) ) onwards first for selected Nokia S60 devices and devices that run Windows Mobile 5.0. In addition, Nokia plans to roll out support for most of the major mobile OS platforms including Series 40, PocketPC, Linux and other Windows Mobile devices.
