Yesterday I mentioned about Nokia Siemens Networks, and if a company like that should blog (or employees should blog) about what they do, network technologies and hardware (whats HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA, CDRs, SGSNs, Flexi, IPSO, blah blah, blah).

The call procecure for a data call through an SGSN

[Image taken from this hardcore presentation. Its a little bit old though]

I have gotten some very very good comments about it, and I guess there is a list forming.

Stefan from RingNokia mentioned these topics:

* How the network has changed the emerging market regions.
* What is being worked on in the research labs that we might see in a few years.
* Semiconductor companies announcing base station and handset hardware that will take full advantage of the network.
* Some really technical pieces. I love the Discovery Channel since they can teach me anything about everything. Teach me what makes 3G so fast.
* Have a debate about the different technologies and bands. Why is there a need for quad band gsm and triband wcdma chips? Standards are useless if there are more than one.

akboom left a very good comment on Tommi’s blog mentioning:

* MSISDN retrieval on devices. The technicalities, limitations, future plans, etc.
* 3G technology, HSDPA, HSUPA,
* the Future,
* the mess with worldwide 3G bands (US),
* the QC patent mess.

Regarding the future, heh well, (a slight inside joke but) someone says “If you want to know what the future is, you have to invent it (its from one of the super screensavers Nokia BI send out:) ).

Another nice comment from Marcus Grober on Tommi’s s60 site was:

how the applications we can expect see as end users are largely shaped by what actually goes on in windowless, air-conditioned server farms…

Well, this one would be a good one, but it might be a little difficult, but doable.

I had mentioned that actually talking about live networks and operators might be difficult as there would be a certain amount of secrecy required. Carlo Longino from MobHappy mentioned:

they could always do so in hypothetical scenarios, or by getting the operators’ relevant PR people to sign off. But I think those types of blog entries could be less important

and that more interesting would be:

the wide range of issues and problems the networks business is dealing with, as well as the flood of new technologies it’s introducing.

So it seems in general people are interested more in the technologies, how the stuff works, and whats coming in the future. I am very interested in hearing what people would like to see. As you can see, I am pretty open to suggestions, ideas, and topics to cover. So keep the ideas coming.

Well thats perfect because:

1. I would be learning while I write, and
2. there would be less chances of getting into trouble from operators :P

win-win!

One thing Carlo mentioned was the target audience, and I am not sure about that. Who is/should be the target audience?

So, this post is really to see what else people would be interested in hearing about.

Please leave me a comment telling me what you would be interested in. And if its possible, I’ll try and do it.

One other question: I had been thinking about either creating a new blog, or keeping it inside this blog. I like the idea of keeping it inside here, as I would have no “official looking” blog. It would be more posts about mobile network core technologies and things, combined with my personal stuff too.

What do people think about that?

Anyway, leave me a comment either way.
