With all the information made available on both the Nokia Intranet, and Internet websites, gems like this can get lost (hea, no content management system is perfect!).

After Tommi telling us about the hot-of-the-presses Nokia Beta Labs release of Gizmo for S60, from the fantastic Gizmo Project (proper SIP, none of this Skype stuff! :) ).

I tried to install it, both versions, on my Nokia E61, but no go.

After someone left a comment on Tommi’s post, saying that the N80i version works on the E61, with new 3.x firmware, I went looking for an update to my FW.

Anyway, I have been trying to find out a simple way to update the firmware on Nokia phones for a long time.

And so, I found this page via the Nokia TP intranet: Software Update Availability.

Nokia mobile phone firmware update

Simply follow two steps:

1. Find your current software version by entering *#0000# on your phone’s keypad.
2. To find the latest available software updates, you need to enter your phone’s product code into the field below.
Your product code is found inside your phone, on the white label beneath the battery. The product code will look similar to this:

CODE: 0520001

Plug the Product Code into the box provided, and the process starts. Of course, currently, you still ned your Windows based application for updating the firmware. One step at a time….almost there.

I was quite happy to find the new firmware was available (to the public anyway), so I updated the firmware.

After updating I can happily say, that I now have Gizmo running perfectly. Excellent. That’ll save me^^ Nokia Siemens Networks a fair amount of money when I am travelling, and I am in proximity to some free/open WiFi.
