Nokia N73 Flickr logo

Martin Sauter asks today why is the N73 one of (if not) the most popular camera phone used on the Flickr photosharing site.

Wherever I go these days I see people with Nokia N-73 phones walking around. Incredible for a phone that has just been available for a couple of months.
I think there are even more people now with an N-73 than with an N-70 which I think has been announced by Nokia as their so far most successful smartphone.
Take a look at the Flickr statistics for picture uploads from Nokia phones. The curve for the N-73 shoots up like a rocket and has surpassed all Nokia’s by far already. A comparison of picture uploads between different brands would be interesting.
Anyone aware of such a statistic?

This is the particular statistic he talks about.

The reason the Nokia devices (particularly the N73) is one of the most popular with the Flickr users is the drive Nokia made to bundle a Flickr uploader application onto the “multimedia” phones, the N series namely. Flickr even publicise it on their site. There’s even official Flickr support!

The Flickr uploader application (found here) is bundled (last checked up to 2-3 months ago) with N73 devices, and also other N series devices. Since the N series devices have good quality (and relatively high M. pixel rate) the output of the cameras is pretty good.

This made is easier for people to point, shoot, upload.

Combine a pretty simple application, with the popularity of the Nokia devices, and I think you have a winner on your hands (or in your pocket:) )

With regard other device makers, Flickr list Sony Ericsson, Motorola for sure as being popular also.

Anyone use the N series devices for Flickr. I still haven’t upgraded my E61 to the E61i…I don’t think anyone from work will here my request :)
