Description: Ayuntamiento / Townhall. This is the square where, on the 6th of July at precisely midday, thousands of people jam themselves, to watch the Txupinazo opening celebrations of Sanfermin. The chosen guest, Mayor, councillors, and other dignatories collect on the balcony, above the front gates of the building. The Mayor says the famous words, “Pamploneses, Pamplonesas. Viva Sanfermín! Gora Sanfermín! The rocket is fired, and then all hell breaks loose.

As explained in an earlier photo, when the txupinazo has been fired, and the fiesta starts in earnest, to clean themselves of all the mustard, flour, champagne, and other dirt, people walk the streets, looking up at balconies shouting agua, agua. When the people living in those apartments hear this, they tip buckets of water over, to “help” those poor souls.

When this “mozo” (young guy), got down on his knees to ask for water, I had to make the photo. It didn’t turn out as good as some previous ones, but I was happy.

* Trash collection increased by 2.2 percent over 2007 with an increase of 7.48 percent in glass collection.
* The number of toilets continued to increase. There were 4, 028 shower rooms available in Antoniutti and the “Casa de Baños”.
* A total of 5,272 buses used the Pamplona Bus Station between the dates of the 6th ad 14th of July. These buses transported 176,479 people to and from Pamplona. (Read more here. NB: In Castellano)
*Hospital data: 593 ambulance services, 52 car wrecks, 4 people runover, 88 alcohol related conditions. 105 people were attended by health services during the txupinazo.
* Red Cross data: Pamplona Red Cross attended 779 people during the fiesta. Of these; 294 were during the encierros. (Read more here. NB: In Castellano)

*Police data: during Sanfermin 2008, there were 1,624 complaints to the police for theft-a 30 percent increase over 2007. In 2009, the Foral Police arrested 107 people and received 730 complaints.

Finances:

Budget for Sanfermin: EURO 3,106,875.

Events organised by the town hall: 484 cultural events

* Most successful events were music oriented: 220,000 people attended concerts: 9,000 enjoyed Chick Berry, followed by M-Clan with 1,000 spectators fewer than Berry.

* Children and their families had their own events and 55,000 attended.

* 270,000 people watched the fireworks at the open grassy areas near the new bus station (which measures 25,000 square meters).
