Gracias a TVE os ofrecemos el encierro del 10 Julio de 2009. Los toros de la ganaderia de Jandilla han protagonizado uno de los encierros más peligrosos de la historia y cobrádonse la vida de un corredor.

Description: This is the third and final photo in this sequence. This was the impromptu shrine dedicated to Daniel Jimeno Romero who died on the 10th of July during the encierro.

It was a pity, but shortly after this, the foral police removed all of the pañuelos, and fajas, and candles from the barrera, “for safety reasons”.

Description: This is the second photo in this sequence. The previous is here. This unidentified girl walked out from behind one of the outside barreras (fencing). She managed to walk up to the barrera where Daniel Jimeno Romero had died, the morning before.

As she walked, I watched her. I watched as she tied the pañuelo, but I couldn’t do anything. I was really torn between should I take the photograph, or not? It seemed I was the only person there.

It took me 10-15 seconds before I could take the photo, as it was a very emotional site. She had such grief and sadness in her face. She didn’t want any photographs. She turned away, and walked back into the crowd. It was a very strange, uncomfortable moment.

I was waiting for things to “hot up” on the encierro, when this unidentified girl walked out from behind one of the outside barreras (fencing). The foral police did not want to let her through as it had gone past the time when the public were allowed to enter the course. She managed to walk through, and walk up to the barrera where Daniel Jimeno Romero had died, the morning before. She tied a panuelo, and a bunch of flowers to the barrera where he had died.

Description: The Cruz Rojo are the silent heroes (along with the pastores) of the Encierro. These are the people who will save your life if/when you get gored/fall/trampled.

They move with lightening speed. They have official positions throughout the encierro-usually at the most dangerous positions.

Every Sanfermin they have a fundraising walk through the city when the Gigantes Y Cabezudos, handing out lollipops to children.

I suggest you donate some money to them next time you see them – you may need them.

This is not a beautiful photo. It’s not supposed to be. It is disturbing but, that is one of the feelings I get during a corrida. I go there becuase I want to go. However, I don’t think its a bad thing to have mixed feelings about it.
