This is not a beautiful photo. It’s not supposed to be. It is disturbing but, that is one of the feelings I get during a corrida. I go there becuase I want to go. However, I don’t think its a bad thing to have mixed feelings about it.

Yes, that is blood, and no, it is not belonged to the man. It is blood from the horse, after it had been gored. Of all the corrida, I have to say, I feel most sorry for these horses. I don’t think they know what’s coming. They stand, take it quietly, and then, die.

Description: Torero Francisco Marco watching as a picador weakens  a toro from Hros. de Don José during the 1st phase of his fight.

Shortly after this, the toro toppled the picador, and horse. A later photograph shows the aftermath.
