Pobre De Mi
From RWBWiki
Correctly named " Pobre De Mí". - Poor Me
The 14th of July, at midnight is the official close of the fiesta of Sanfermin. It is marked by the closing ceremony called "Pobre de Mí", literally meaning "Poor Me".
The location of the ceremony, is always, the front of the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall), in Plaza De Consistorial, in the old town. It is a fitting location, as this is the same location of the opening ceremony, El Txupinazo, approximately 204 hours before.
Although this is the official location of the closing ceremony, alot of Peñas choose to close the fiesta in other locations.
This is a very very sad moment for people of Pamplona, and Sanfermin lovers. It is not unusual to see grown men and women crying as their beloved festival draws to a close.
The fiesta has come to a finish, there are no more encierros, everyone must return to their "normal lives", and well, they have to wait for another 364 more days until the next Sanfermines.
Large crowds gather in the square, holding candles, singing ""Pobre de Mí, Pobre de Mí, que se han acabado las fiestas, de San Fermín" (Poor me, poor me, because the fiestas of Sanfermin have finished).
The Mayor/ress comes to the balcony of the Ayuntamiento saying:
"Pamploneses, Pamplonesas, ya se han acabado las fiestas, de San Fermín. Por ello, o se planto en esta misma plaza, el proximo 6 de Julio, de 2009. Por que? ¡Ya falta menos! Ya falta menos para que todo digamos Viva Sanfermin! Gora sanfermin!"
(In this same plaza, the next 6th of July of the coming year. Why? Because there is less to go for San Fermin!" There is less to go for San Fermin for everyone to say, Viva Sanfermin! Gora Sanfermin!)
And with that, the fiesta is officially finished. Everyone takes their pañuelos off, stores them in a safe place (or else just puts them on their wrists, to get soaked in the last of the alcohol) and parties those last few hours, only this time, with a tear in their eye.
